MOUNT MOURNECecil Williams Pierce, 92, of Mount Mourne, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015 at his residence.He was born on July 27, 1922 in Hallsboro, N.C., to the late Walter Council and Mattie Mae Williams Pierce. Mr. Pierce was a graduate of Whiteville High School in Whiteville, N.C., after which he started work as a stock boy for Roses Stores Inc., in Whiteville. Later he became a manager of several stores in North Carolina and Virginia. He was with Roses Stores for 42 years prior to retiring to Mount Mourne in 1985. Mr. Pierce was faithful member of Centre Presbyterian Church in Mooresville for 30 years, where he was a Deacon, Elder and Sunday School teacher. He was also a member of the Ruritan Club and the Lions Club during his working years. Mr. Pierce was married on July 18, 1951 to his wife, Ruth Cowan Pierce, and were married for 45 years prior to her passing on Feb. 25, 1996.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Pauline Creech, Eva Jones; and his brother, Henry Pierce.

He is survived by his children, C. William Pierce (Jun), Elizabeth P. Manoso (Pete), Charles C. Pierce (Melinda), Catherine R. Pierce; grandchildren, Benjamin Pierce (Jessie), Jonathan Pierce, Lauren P. Knelson (Erik), Andrew Pierce, Robert Manoso (Emily), Sarah Manoso; and great-grandchildren, Brooke, Courtney, and Holly Pierce.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, March 18), at Centre Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert Howard officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday, March 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Centre Presbyterian Church, 129 Centre Church Rd., Mooresville, NC 28117.Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, 494 E.
