Born July 15, 1958, in Louisville, he was the son of Joan Cralle Day and Dr. Cyrus M. Day III. Russ was a graduate of Camp LeJeune High School (N.C.) and New Mexico Military Institute. He was also a U.S. Army veteran and a welder and electrician. Known for his generosity and kindness to strangers, he was a gentle soul who always put others before himself. He never realized his own goodness.
He was preceded in death by his brother and best friend, David Lee Day.
Russ is survived by his mother and father; sisters, Susan Day and Carolyn Day; niece, Vanessa Day; nephews, Tyler Kmetz (Sarah) and Dakota Day; and great-nephews, Dallas Day and Shawn Harness.
His funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Highlands.
