G. Mildred Rush, known to everyone as Peach, died June 25, 2010. She was born January 29, 1928, in Borderland, Kentucky, to Van Buren and Carrie (Cundiff) Alley. She grew up in Grundy, VA. She attended James Madison University and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from there. In 1956, Peach married John Russell Rush in Fishersville, Virginia, a marriage blessed with two beautiful daughters, Sarah Lee and Virginia Alley Rush. She was a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and the National Society Southern Dames of America. Peach was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Sarah, and a son who died at birth. She is survived by her husband, and daughter Virginia; nephew, Dean (wife Nancy and daughters, Lori and Lindsay); and many Alley and Cundiff cousins. A celebration of her life will be held June 30, 2010, at Asbury Place, located behind Cokesbury United Methodist Church. HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.GLORIA MILDRED

1928 - 2010

On Friday, June 25, 2010, G. Mildred Rush, known to everyone as Peach, was called home by her Heavenly Father. She was a loving wife, mother and friend, and will be greatly missed. She was born January 29, 1928, in Borderland, KY, to Van Buren and Carrie Cundiff Alley and was raised to young womanhood in Grundy, VA. Her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from James Madison University supported her teaching career that spanned, intermittently, a period of over 20 years that included teaching the fifth grade and high school and vocational school level home economics, sewing, alterations, and tailoring. For ten years she was the alterations supervisor at McRaes Department store in Pensacola.
In 1956 Peach was married to John Rush in Fishersville, VA, a marriage blessed with two beautiful daughters, Sarah Lee and Virginia Alley Rush.
Peach was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church and was active with the "Craft Ladies" and the Naomi Circle. She was a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and the National Society Southern Dames of America. She loved flowers, animals, especially her Granddog Trotter, and a good book.
Peach was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Sarah.
She is survived by her husband, John, and daughter Virginia; nephew, Dean Alley (Nancy) and daughters, Lori and Lindsay Alley of MD, and many Alley and Cundiff cousins. She also leaves behind many special friends she considered part of her family.
A Celebration of her life will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Asbury Place, located behind Cokesbury United Methodist Church on 9th Ave. Light refreshments will follow. Casual attire is encouraged. Please, no flowers.
