Funeral services for Joyce Margaret Jenkins Pierce were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 14, at First Baptist Church of Grenada. Burial followed at Woodlawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Jim Nunnelee officiated the service. Pallbearers were Johnny Morrison, James Tharpe, Waymon Scarberry, Joe Lee, Tom Tramel, and Tyler Craddock.
Mrs. Pierce died Friday, June 11, 2010, at Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis. She is survived by Appleton Joseph (Bob) Pierce, her husband of 66 years. She also leaves three children, daughter Margaret Drake of Grenada, and sons, Larry Pierce (Sissy) of Grenada and Glen Pierce of Carlsbad, N.M. She also leaves five grandchildren: Julian Drake, Nathalie Drake Tramel (Tom), and Dana Pierce Craddock (Tyler) all of Grenada, Jade Pierce of Starkville, and Alan Pierce of Carlsbad. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Pierce also leaves a sister, Martha Jenkins Stull of Benton, Ill., and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. John Jenkins and Mrs. Johnnie Snellings Jenkins, and her beloved brothers, Rosamond Jenkins and Thomas Jenkins and her son-in-law, Richard Drake.
Mrs. Pierce was born Aug. 29, 1926, in Oneida, Tenn., and grew up in Grand Junction, Tenn. It was there that she accepted Christ as her Savior, and met the man that she would marry. Mrs. Pierce remained in Grand Junction as a young war bride and mother. After World War II was over and her husband returned from Europe, they moved to Grenada where they have lived for 60 years.
Mrs. Pierce enjoyed a successful career in sales. She spent many years as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, and the Grenada County Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Pierce served as a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Loyal Order of Moose, and Exchangettes. She was a member of First Baptist Church and especially loved her Sunday School class and singing in the choir.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Grenada.
