B.G. “Benny” Oefinger passed away February 6, 1987 at Southwest Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, following a lengthy illness.

He was an educator and administrator in the Woodsboro Independent School District for 29 years prior to his retirement in 1979. During his years in Woodsboro, he was very active in youth activities and contributed to the formation of Little League Baseball and Explorer Scouting, Boy Scouts of America. He retired to Hondo in 1979 to enjoy working on the family ranch and visiting with old and new friends; two of his favorite past-times.

Born September 3, 1917, he was the son of Ben H. Oefinger and Agnes B. Oefinger of Hondo. He married the former Lela Grace Reily of Hondo in 1941.

He was preceded in death by his father.

In addition to his widow and his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Judy Hays (Kenn) of Brownwood, and sons, Larry Oefinger (Janice) of Hondo, and David Oefinger (Dorothy) of Victoria, and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers included Glen Bragg and Gaylon Boubel of Hondo, Curtis Hinton of Victoria, Weldon Wilson of Brownwood, Edgar Schubert and Mal Crews of Woodsboro and Grandsons Brian and Dennis Hays of Brownwood.

Funeral services were held on February 9 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Reverends Jack Franklin, Bert Clayton. and Phillip Dibrell officiating.

Interment was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Hondo.

Funeral arrangements were made by Guinn Horger Funeral Home in Hondo.
