Richard Brittain Tuggle was a famous US Naval Rear Admiral who participated in several major battles in Atlantic and Pacific during World War II.

These included the Philippines shortly after Pearl Harbor, the capture of Sicily, the Anzio, Italy, landings, and Marine landings at Leyte, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

He also directed the evacuation of the Bikini Islands for atomic bomb tests after the war.

After retiring from the Navy, Tuggle and his wife moved to Florida where he taught at the University of Miami before moving to Jupiter Island, Florida, in 1952.
