1.) HARRIET GERTRUDE BAKER
Harriet Gertrude Alden, the daughter of S. K. and Nancy A. Alden, was born near Springfield, Ill., on September 6, 1853. After her mother died when she was 2 years of age, she with her father moved to Wisconsin where they resided for a few years before yielding to the call of Iowa prairie land, settling in Tama county.

She was united in marriage to James H. Baker on May 19, 1869, and lived in Kansas for several years. She then moved to Decatur county where she heard her first Latter Day Saint sermon in the little town of Pleasanton in the early days of the church and was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the year 1880 at Fontanelle, Iowa.

Since the year 1906, she has lived in Lamoni and has gained by her kindly nature many friends who knew her as a neighbor who was always willing to help wherever she saw opportunity.

Preceding her in death were three of her four daughters, the one remaining is Mrs. Clara Westphal, with whom she has lived and whose loving care has brought her through many long months of her declining years. She celebrated her ninetieth birthday on September 6 and passed peaceably away from this life on December 10.

E. J. Gleazer delivered the funeral sermon and was assisted by J. A. Gunsolley.
