He was 30 years and 1 month old. On 31 Dec 1862 Richard ended military service by discharge due to disability.
He applied for a veteran's pension in Aug 1864.
After the war, Richard and his family lived in Buffalo, NY, where they were enumerated in the federal census.
On 9 Jan 1914, Richard was admitted at National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, Bath, New York.
He died there on 22 Jan 1914. He was 81 years and 6 months old.
