Jerry Allen Higgins, 65, of East Flat Rock, NC went to be with the Lord following a courageous battle with a long illness on Tuesday, December 7, at his home. A native of Polk County, he was a son of the late James Elbert Higgins and Alta Foster Hodge. He attended Polk County Schools but lived most of his life in Henderson County. He made his living in the trade of mechanical heating and air conditioning, acquiring 40 years of experience in the field. He was owner of Hendersonville Heating and Cooling for the last 26 years. He was very well known and respected within the Henderson County small business community and was a member of the Henderson County Mechanical Contractors Association. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Elks, Lodge # 1616. He was an avid antique and hot rod car enthusiast. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Deborah Ledford and Kathy Touma. His greatest joy was his family and friends and spending time with his beloved grandchildren.
Mr. Higgins is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Patsy B. Higgins; two sons, Jeffrey and Kelly Higgins, both of East Flat Rock; his daughter, Julie Edwards and her husband Rickey of Hendersonville, NC; four sisters, Betty Jean Moore and her husband Bobby of Mill Spring, NC, Lois Emanuel of East Flat Rock, Barbara Henson of Landrum, SC and Kay Espinoza Elias of Rutherfordton, NC; three brothers, Ray Higgins and his wife Gene of Columbus, NC, David Higgins of Alabama and Doug Higgins and his wife Barbara of Clairmont, NC; his loving mother in-law, Mary Bland of Saluda, NC; 6 grandchildren, Morgan Mintz, Riley Higgins, Reese Holinski, Seth Harrelson, Latisha Edwards and Tamara Edwards and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 10, at Mud Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Greg Mathis and Rev. Larry Oliver will officiate. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday, December 9, at Mud Creek Baptist Church. At other times they will be at the home. The family would like to offer their sincere and heartfelt thanks to the staff of Four Seasons Compassion for Life
