Anton J. Aksamit, a resident of Saline County for 52 years, died Sunday, February 7 at his home in northeast Crete at the age of 82 years, nine months, and one day.
Mr. Aksamit ws born in Okres Nova Kdymi, Czechoslovakia, Krej Pilsen, June 6, 1860. He came to the United States in 1867 and settled in Monitowoc, Wisconsin. He moved to Lancaster County in 1870. Mr. Aksamit was united in marriage to Rose Drevo in 1886. In 1890 they moved to a farm five miles north of Crete where they lived 46 years. In 1936 they moved into town where he lived at the time of his death.
Surviving are his wife, six daughters, Mrs. Rose Tisher, Mrs. Bessie Prochaska of Crete; Mrs. Agnes Krejci, Mrs. Lillie Kubes of Denton; Mrs. Sophia Vak of Omaha; Mrs. Louise Plachy of Lincoln; four sons, Emil of Crete; Tony, Rudolph, and Milo of Lincoln; 32 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; four brothers, Otto and Joe of Wilber; Fred and Vaclav of Crete; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Sindelar and Mrs. Mary Tichy of Wilber. Preceding him in death are two daughters, Lucy and Elizabeth Aksamit and one sister, Mrs. Aloisa Chalupa.
Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Church Wednesday, February 10 at 10 a.m. with Rev. John F. Ekeler officiating. Interment was made in Crete Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Glen Prochaska, Loren Kubes, Melvin Aksamit, Donald Aksamit, Warren Kubes, and Ronald Plachy, grandsons of Mr. Aksamit.
