Dennis Martin Givens was the son of Solomon Jesse and Sarah Jane (Harris) Givens. Born in Cainsville, Wilson County, Tennessee, Givens lived in Rutherford County but moved occasionally in the area during his life. Dennis finished school at the elementary level and was a lifetime farmer. He married Roxie Lela (Delay) Givens and they were together until his 1968 death. He was reported "physically disabled" via WWI draft. Dennis was a hardworking farmer; he was reported to have been working 52 weeks in the year at age 62. His cause of death remains unknown.
