LOWVILLE — Bethany Mary Richardson, 84, formerly of Lowville and Geneva, died Saturday, May 25,2002, at the Masonic Home where she had resided since 1999. A memorial service was held in Geneva at the convenience of the family, with burial in Lowville Rural Cemetery. Surviving Miss Richardson are two nephews, three nieces, three grandnieces, six grandnephews; one great-grandniece and one great-grandnephew. (names omitted) She was predeceased by a sister, Jane Richardson Robinson. Born May 1,1918 in Lowville, a daughter of Harold Jay and Katherine Hesler Richardson, Miss Richardson graduated from Lowville Academy in 1936, and from St. Lawrence University. She received two masters degrees from the University of Rochester and SUNY-Albany, respectively. Miss Richardson taught school at Puna liou School in Honolulu, Hawaii and at the Bement School in Deerfield, Mass. For 20 years, she worked as an employment counselor for the NYS Department of Labor in Geneva, retiring in 1983. Miss Richardson was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church
in Geneva and a member of its choir for many years. She was also a lifetime member of the Seneca Yacht Club in Geneva. As a past Geneva Women's Tennis Champion, Miss Richardson taught tennis in Geneva where she also coached the Hobart»William Smith College Women's Tennis Team. Miss Richardson was an avid sportswoman who enjoyed tennis, skiing and sailing. She hated to cook and depended on the Geneva Wegman's staff.
