A memorial mass will be celebrated for Theodore "Ted" Alveraz who passed away on March 23, 2002 at Pasatiempo home of 50 years, following a two year battle with cancer.

Born in Santa Cruz, California on July 6, 1916, he was 85 years old. Mr. Alveraz was a graduate of Holy Cross Grammar School and Chaminade High School and later went to work for Walti Schilling and Co. In September 1942. he joined the Amiy Veterinary Corp.. becoming Staff Sergeant in the Meat and Dairy Products Inspection Section. On Thanksgiving Day. he married his Holy Cross sweetheart, Josephine Louise Brockman. In 1947. he and his father Joseph Charles Alveraz opened Farmers Elbow Room, "A Tavern in the Town" on Cathcart Street. They sold the business in 1955 and Ted went to work for Graham and Son as a field representative. He retired in 1978. after working for both Los Animas Concrete and Felton Quarry, serving as a field representative.

In 1978, he bought his first of two R.V.'s in which he and Josephine crisscrossed the United States. Mexico and Canada countless times. He and Josephine loved to travel, frequenting Europe, Australia. New Zealand and China. Ted enjoyed fishing, hunting, (particularly duck hunting) and was a member of the Lone Tree Duck Club in Gustine for many years. He also enjoyed his "Honda Magna" motorcycle which he continued to ride until shortly before his death. He was a passionate golfer, and owned one of Pasatiempo's first stock share offerings, which allowed him very inexpensive fees at the course.

Mr. Alveraz was a life member of Santa Cruz Elks Lodge 824, and served on its Board of Trustee for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine Alveraz of Santa Cruz, his daughter, Marilyn Dolezal of Ronan, Montana, his granddaughters, Gina Kanzaki and Tami Cotton both of Dallas Texas, grandson, Allen Dolezal of Helena, Montana, three great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be at San Agustin Catholic Church (257 Glenwood Drive) in Scotts Valley on Tuesday. April 9. beginning at 10 A.M. A private committal has taken place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Santa Cruz, where he was laid to rest next to his parents. Joseph and Grace Alveraz. Mr. Alveraz's family asks that you would consider a contribution to Hospice Caring Project, (6851 Soquel Drive Aptos, CA 95003) whose highly skilled professionals add unmeasured comfort and dignity to the closing days of those terminally ill.
