Bernard F. Powers, 72, (formerly of Orient Hill, Webster County and Rupert) died Monday morning, May 14, 2007, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia, following a short illness.

Born March 25, 1935, at Orient Hill, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Charles D. and Thelma Abigail Simmons Powers.

He was a retired factory worker in the telephone manufacturing business.

Other than parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and William Powers.

Survivors include his wife, Martha P. Cade Powers of Stuarts Draft, Virginia; one daughter, Barbara Southard and her husband, Milton, of Stanardsville, Virginia; two sons, Bernard Powers Jr. and his wife, Helen, of Stuarts Draft, Virginia, and John Powers and his friend, Penny Bosserman of Stuarts Draft, Virginia; five sisters, Corene Mathes of Cowen, West Virginia, Mildred Snyder of Cowen, West Virginia, Edith Harmon of Lewisburg, West Virginia, Anna Morrison of Caldwell, West Virginia, Karen Martin of Verona, Virginia; three brothers, James Powers of Crawley, West Virginia, Robert Powers of Verona, Virginia, Wayne Powers of Crozet, Virginia; three grandchildren, Tiffany Southard, Shawn and Courtney Powers; two stepgrandchildren, Tony and Michael Southard; three step great-grandchildren, Michelle, Savannah, and Jonathan Southard.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2007, at Wallace and Wallace Chapel in Rainelle. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville, West Virginia.

Friends may call from 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2007, at the funeral home.
