Doris M. Anderson, the daughter of Alman and Minnie (Kennedy) White, was born on April 29, 1917, west of Grinnell in rural Poweshiek County. She graduated from Grinnell High School in 1936 and attended Drake University to receive her teaching certificate. Doris taught rural school for four years. Doris was united in marriage with Joseph Andrew Anderson on August 22, 1945 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home on a farm north of Kellogg, where Doris was a homemaker raising their two children, Donald and Judy. Doris was a lifetime member of the Kellogg Historical Society and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Doris died at the age of 96, on Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Union Park Health Services in Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph in 1995; 2 sisters; and 3 brothers.

Those left to honor Doris' memory are her children, Donald (Dianna) Anderson of Des Moines and Judy (Jay) Stevenson of Kellogg; grandchildren, Chris (Rick) Clark of Kellogg, Lora (Kenny) Caves of Kellogg, Jeremy (Shawna) Stevenson of Kellogg, Andy (Dana) Stevenson of Kellogg, and Amy (Chris) Gathman of Newton; her 8 great-grandchildren, Kailer Stevenson, Karleigh and Kaiden Clark, Meredith, Macey and Reece Caves, and Makatlyn and Khryssa Anderson; and her many nieces and nephews including Dick Audas, Norma Lynch, Doris Ann Eames, and Mary Retter, who Doris and Joseph helped raise. She is also survived by her special "other" daughter, Dianna Etter and special neighbors, David and Sherry Fifer.
