John (Jack) DeRoche (1918 - 2013)
John (Jack) DeRoche was born in Champion, Mich., on July 28, 1918, the 13th of 14 children. He passed away in Kirkland, Wash., on February 21, 2013. During WWII, Jack served with the U.S. Army 505th anti-aircraft battalion from 1942-1945 in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He married Evelyn in Marquette, Mich., in 1945. She passed away in 1998. Jack earned a B.S. Degree from Northern Michigan University in 1950. He resided in Indio from 1960 until 2005, when he moved to Kirkland, Wash. While in Indio he taught at Thomas Jefferson Junior High in Indio and Lincoln Middle School in Palm Desert. Jack is survived by son Ken DeRoche (Jill) of Kirkland, Wash. Granddaughter Rebecca (Bill) Protzmann of San Diego, Grandson Michael DeRoche of Kirkland, Wash., and Great Granddaughters Madeline, Lux and Charlotte of San Diego. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Christ of the Desert Church on Fred Waring Dr. and San Pablo Ave. in Palm Desert on Friday, March 22, 2013 at 2:00 pm. Private interment was held at the Coachella Valley Cemetery.
