Mrs. Edith Gray Tankersley Holmes departed this life on March 16, 2013 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on June 6, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Tankersley and Ethel Brown Tankersley. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister Margaret Tankersley Jackson and one brother Thomas Tankersley, Jr. She gave her life to Christ at a young age at Rivermont Baptist Church. She left Lynchburg to pursue a nursing career at Providence Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland where she worked for many years. Edith is survived by a loving and devoted cousin Deborah Harris, a nephew James Tankersley (Verleria) and many other family members and friends. A funeral service will be conducted 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Rivermont Baptist Church with Pastor Shawn T.L. Womack officiating. Interment will be in the Baptist Cemetery. Her remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends at 523 Fauquier Street and the cortege will assemble at Rivermont Baptist Church.
