Mrs. August Smith
Funeral rites for Mrs. August (Mabel) Smith were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, from the Casterline Funeral Home, with the Rev. Otto Lyons of the Novi Methodist church officiating.
Mrs. Smith, who had been ill for the past three weeks, died Sunday, May 3 [sic], in the Ford hospital, Detroit. She was born 82 years ago near Henry Ford's home and was a classmate of his.
She moved to Novi 61 years ago from Farmington, at the time of her marriage. In Novi, she was an active church worker, giving up her work in the Ladies Aid only when ill health forced her to do so.
Surviving her are a daughter, Mrs. Charles Holmes; and a son, Herman Smith, both of Novi. Her husband preceded her in death several years ago. Burial was in the Novi cemetery.
