Husband of Ethel Ione Pearson. Son of Jeremiah Newton Guthrie & Amanda Kindle.

Clifford Guthrie, son of Jerry and Amanda Kendall Guthrie, was born October 17, 1888, near Nebo, Illinois, died July 23, 1937 near Milton, Pike County, Illinois. He professed faith in his Savior with sixteen years of age, at a revival meeting, held in the Nebo Baptist church by J. O. Raines.
He was married Aug. 3, 1910 to Miss Ethel Pearson of Nebo. To this union 4 children were born, one dying in infancy, leaving his wife, Ethel, three sons, Wayne, Leo and Ross, a daughter-in-law and grand daughter, Norma Jean, to mourn his loss. Clifford was from a family of nine: William, Robert and Mrs. Walter Grimes of Nebo, Oscar and Elza of White Hall, Henry of Baylis and Mrs. John Kinkade of Pawnee, Illinois. Another sister, Mrs. John Pruett preceded him in death a few years ago.
So dear Clifford, we reluctantly bid you good bye, for a little while, we who were here when you came, then welcomed and loved you very tenderly; we have been going along the often tedious roads of life with you for nearly half a century; we freely acknowledge your brave battles, and as your last words to us were, you tried to be true and loyal.
We know of your ideals and how earnestly you tried to reach them. You counseled and pledged with your companion and sons in well defined plans, looking for the dawning of days, and while appearing, possibly, not so far away, you was crept upon at an unguarded moment by that merciless foe of all life and happiness, and to our profound sorrow was made his victim. While tenderly we assign your body to a place in a community of the dead we, with all our hearts believe that ere this, you have been, in soul, in spirit assigned here no pains, reverses or death will ever be known. Without doubt you have exchanged greetings with loved and loving, who have long gone before, and are now congratulating you as a crowned victor. So in your interest and memory we pledge to your companion and sons our best wishes and interest.
Your remaining brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held at Nebo Baptist Church Sunday afternoon conducted by the Rev. Dowdy, with burial in the Pleasant Hill cemetery.
