DEATH of HUMPHREY GRIFFITH -- Humphrey GRIFFITH died at the Lick House, San Francisco, on Monday last, aged 36 years. His disease was consumption, from which he had been suffering since the death of his wife, nearly 2 years ago. His remains were taken in charge by the Masons of Washington Lodge No. 20, Sacramento, he having been a member of that fraternity.

The Union Democrat newspaper (Sonora, California) - Mar 28, 1863 - Death of Humphrey Griffith. - It is with sincere regret we are compelled to announce the demise of this talented gentleman, who died suddenly in San Francisco on Tuesday last. Mr. Griffith was well known to the people of the State as an able advocate at the bar an an eloquent political speaker. At the time of his death he was Chairman of the Democratic State Central Committee. His remains were taken to Sacramento, his late residence, for interment. The Masonic Fraternity, of which he was a member in high standing, conducted the funeral ceremonies.

A wrought iron fence surrounds the burial site of the Hon. Humphrey Griffith, his wife Cordelia, and their young children, daughter Laura, and son Willie. Sadly, all died young and just a few years apart: Laura died in 1857 at age 2 years; Willie died as a baby in 1859; Cordelia died in 1860 at age 27; and Humphrey died in 1863 at the age of 36.
