Mrs. Mary Henderson "Pete" Parker, age 86, of Marion, passed away Saturday, July 5,
2003 at The McDowell Hospital. She was born in Seneca, South Carolina, May 9, 1917 to the
late Thomas Hampton Henderson and Gussie Irene Abbott Henderson. Mrs. Parker was a
lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Marion, an avid golfer and a member of the
Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother and Aunt.
Husbands Edgar Arthur Allen and Harvey L. "Sparky" Parker preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Keith Parker Gibbs and husband Don, of Old Fort, NC and
Amanda Allen Radcliffe and husband Charles, of Montezuma, NC; one grandson, Charles
Harvey Radcliffe; two nephews, David Ditt of Marion and Thomas Ditt of Raleigh and one
niece Rene Knowles of Fairfax, VA.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 7, 2003, at 11:00 AM at The First Baptist
Church of Marion with Dr. Bob Shepherd officiating. The family will receive friends one
hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in McDowell Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the State Library of N.C. for the Blind,
1811 Capital Blvd., Raleigh, NC, 27635-0001.
