LA lefty' Horn
DIGHTON — L.A. "Lefty" Horn, 75, died
Tuesday April 16, 2002, from injuries
suffered in a fire at his home in Dighton.
He was born March 7,1927, at Sterling,
the son of Lloyd M. and Gladys Deborah
Selfridge Horn. He grew up on a farm in
Rice County and attended Union 2 Country School
After serving in the South Pacific with
the US. Navy during World War n, he
returned to Sterling and worked in the
oil fields. In 1950, he moved to Lane
County and worked on farms for Jake
Selfridge and Ross Jasper. In 1960,
he became the owner-operator of Lefty's
Soil Service which he ran until retiring in 1996.
Mr. Horn attended the United Methodist
Church and was a life member of VFW
Post No. 6438, both at Dighton. His special
interests were hunting, fishing watching
and supporting the men's softball team he
sponsored and, in later years, being part
of his grandchildren's activities.
On Jan. 1,1950, he married Jeannine Wilson
at Hutchinson. She survives. He also is
survived by a daughter, Toni Molina,
Albuquerque, N.M.; three sons, Craig Horn,
Lyons, Larry Horn, Belton, Mo., and Lloyd
Horn, Dighton; a brother, Elton Horn, San
Diego; a sister, Nellie Ramsey Douglass,
Wyo.; six grandchildren; and two step-
granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and
a brother, Robert Horn.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m, Friday at the
United Methodist Church, Dighton, with the
Rev Lennie Maxwell officiating. Burial will
be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery with
graveside rites conducted by American
Legion Post No. 190 of Dighton. Memorials
are suggested to the United Methodist Church
or VFW Post No. 6438, both in care
of Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton.
