Professional Football Player. Born Paul Lawrence Younger in Grambling, Louisiana, he was one of the first black athletes to break the National Football League's color barrier. Known as "Tank" he played as a fullback, halfback, and as a linebacker for the Los Angeles Rams from 1949 to 1957, and the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1958. Young, who retired in 1958, ranks as number 15 on the NFL's All-Time Rushing Average List with 4.727. He was elected into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2000.
