Flossie H. Carter, age 92 of Big Rapids, went to be with her Lord, Saturday, March 16, 2013 in Canton. She was born March 24, 1921 in Jonesboro, Arkansas the daughter of Howard L. and Clara (Spicer) Morton. Flossie married James S. Carter on July 4, 1939 in Tennessee. They made their home in Plymouth and Canton for many years. Flossie had worked in the Northville School Cafeteria, the employee kitchen at Garwood Industries in Wayne and Dowlings Market in Plymouth. Following their retirement, Flossie and James had lived in Mancelona, Reed City, and most recently in Big Rapids.

Flossie loved her family; there were never too many family members in her home. She loved to cook for her family (especially caramel pies) and play cards.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki (John) Hurley of Canton; son, Jim (Ramona) Carter of Big Rapids; son-in-law, Charles B. Hill of Rogers Heights; nine grandchildren, Vincent (Teresa) Carter, Jason Carter, Cynthia (Jian) Huang, Preston Hill, Theresa (Matt) Lutton, MaryAnn (Phillip) Messersmith, Jonathon (Sandy) Hurley, Shannon (David) Tollefson, Jeremy Hurley; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Milford J. (Sue) Morton of Union City, TN; several nieces and nephews.

Flossie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 66 years, James Carter Sr.; an infant son, Harold Carter, daughter, Carolyn Hill; brother, Allen Morton, two sisters, Evelyn Epperson and Ann Lou McQueen.

Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Tom McCue officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home, Tuesday (today) from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Spring burial will be at Pine Plains Cemetery in Big Rapids.
