BOND
Bids His Girl-Wife Good-Bye and Then Kills Himself
Matt Bond, the nineteen-year-old son of J. L. Bond, a well-known stock trader of Lawrenceburg, and nephew of Dr. R. H. Crossfield, president of Transylvania University, Lexington, committed suicide Tuesday night by shooting himself through the head with a 32 caliber pistol. Young Bond, who was clerk in the dry goods store of G. B. Hawkins & Co., was married to Miss Blanche Nowlin, the pretty fifteen-year-old daughter of A. J. Nowlin, of Tyrone, some fifteen months ago, but they became estranged five or six months ago and separated. On Monday Mrs. Bond, who had been making her home with her parents, went to Lawrenceburg to visit the family of W. A. Gortney. In the evening, she and her husband drove from Lawrenceburg to Tyrone and returned about 11 o'clock. When they arrived at the home of Mr. Gortney, Bond got out of the buggy and told his wife good-bye three times, and at the time telling her that it would be the last time. Then he went to the rear of the vehicle where he shot himself, dying at once. Mrs. Bond was almost prostrated with grief. She states that she and her husband had arranged to go to housekeeping. The news of the tragedy was a severe shock to the citizens, as Mr. Bond was in his usual good spirits at his work Monday, although he had shown the pistol, which was a new one, to some of his fellow clerks, remarking that it was a "dandy." Mr. Bond formerly lived near McAfee, this county.
