"Services for Lloyd Edward McClearen, 76, Route 1, Pleasantville, former Hickman County Superintendent of Education, who died 7:05 Sunday morning at his home in the Farmer's Exchange Community were conducted at 1 p.m Tuesday at the Bethel Methodist Church by Dr. Farris F. Moore and the Rev. Jacob Smith....Burial was in the Bethel Cemetery....Mr. McClearen had returned to his Hickman County home last June. He had served as superintendent of education in Hickman County for two periods, from Oct. 2, 1928 to 1934 and from Sept. 1, 1938 to Sept, 1, 1944...Mr. McClearen's interest in education never wanted throughout his long and useful career. He taught school first when he was only 15 and throughout his life he had been instrumental in encouraging young people to acquire an education and often contributed financially toward helping a deserving youngster to complete his education...He had taught in the public school system of both Hickman and Lewis Counties and in addition to serving as county superintendent in Hickman he had been principal of the Lewis County High School in Hohenwald....Like some other older Hickman countians, Mr. McClearen attended the old Fairview Academy in Centerville before there was a county high school. It was while he attended the academy that he met his future wife, Annie Laura Russell, who also attended Fairview....For his college education, he attended Middle Tennessee State Teachers college, now Middle Tennessee State University. Mr. and Mrs. McClearen attained the distinction of living to see their nine children graduate from college.
There are 6 daughters, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Nades, Boston, Mrs.Annie Russell Hauk, Nashville, Peabody College, Mrs. Nellie King, Mt. View Calif., Austin Peay State College, Mrs. Lloydette Pederson, Greenville, Texas, Trevecca College, and Mrs. Suzanne Hamilton, Maryzille, Calif., Austin Peay State College...There 3 sonsv are Harber A. McClearen, Aiken, S.C., University of Tennessee, Knoxville; A. Graham McClearen, Albertville, AL, U. T. Knoxville, and John M. McClearen, Oak Ridge, Austin Peay State College.
In addition to his widow and nine children, survivors include 4 sisters, Mrs. Emma Morris, Humboldt, Mrs, Sophie Leslie, Marshall, Ark., Mrs. Thelma Barber, Hohenwald, and Miss Dilie McClearen, Farmer's Exchange; 2 brothers, Verner and Frank McClearen, both of Farmer's Exchange, and 18 grandchildren.
