Betsey was born in Rossie NY where iron was forged which was the occupation of her father Amasa Billings. Her mother was born an Adams, and there were many Adams around Rossie who would all move to Michigan. After the Civil War Peter and Betsey moved to Kalamazoo Michigan where many of the Adams family had taken up residence. They traveled with the Billings and Smith family to Mason County and received a land grant signed by President Grant. They became pioneers of Mason County when it was all forest with no roads.
She was educated, and kept a journal of her life which today is a family treasure. It is copied along with her and her husband's genealogies in a book by Maren LaGuire.

Betsey never had a stone, but her grave is shown in the picture. Her husband Peter LaGuire is behind her with a flag because he served in the civil war.
