Funeral services were held Saturday, July 18, for Cornelius Schreuder, who died Wednesday, July 15, of injuries received in a cave-in when a large piece of earth partially buried him in a ditch and fatally injured his chest.
Mr. Schreuder was working on the excavation east of Rock Valley's water tower when the mishap happened.
He was rushed to the Hudson hospital and was about to be transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital when he died of his injuries.
The accident happened about 10:00 a.m. Wednesday and he died about two hours later.
Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in the Porter Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. in the First Christian Reformed church of Rock Valley. Rev John H.. Elenbaas, Doon, officiated. John Vande Kerk was soloist with Mrs Robert Van Driel at the organ.
Pallbearers were Richard Tank, Andrew De. Jager, Melvin Brands, William Brands, Gerrit Brands and Ernest Burgers.
Mr Schreuder was born Dec. 6, 1907, at Alvord to Albert and Gertrude Schreuder and was 56 years, seven months and nine days old at the time of his death.
He married Susanna Baron on October, 1929. She preceded him in death on June 30, 1856. He is survived by two sons, Albert (Bud) and Clarence, both of Rock, Valley; two daughters, Mrs. William Landegent (Alma), Rock Valley and Mrs Elmer Van Kekerix (Helen), Sheldon; two sisters, Mrs Henry Van Bemmel (Jennie), Doon and Mrs Andrew Piekema (Coba), Denver, Colo.; and three grandchildren.
Two grandchildren preceded him in death. Interment was in Valley View cemetery.
