Lewis E. Herndon was the son of O.A. Herndon and Emma Blackstock Herndon. Lewis was a barber and lived most of his adult life in Atlanta where his grandparents and great-grandparents also had lived. Lewis was married and later divorced to Nellie Grace Johnson Herndon. He was predeceased by both of his parents and his only son, PFC Carroll E. Herndon, KIA in WWII.
