Son of Elizabeth Niewald and her husband Frederich Krummey, Fritz went to school in Lippe Detmold, Germany, till he was 14 years of age. He worked on a farm for a year, and the following nine years he worked in a brick yard doing mostly contract work. In this time he saved $150.00 and came to America in 1872 via Steamship. The oldest sister was 24, a sister Amalia was only 11 and a younger brother. The younger brother died upon arrival in America. Fritz and Amalia reached Missouri and lived in Gasconade Co. SE of Drake
They were the niece and nephews of the Seven Niewald Brothers that came to America. They felt their name of Krummey caused jest , so they took their mother's name Niewald
He married Margaruite Linhardt, she was born Jan 17,1852 and died Nov 1873 They were married in December of 1872. A daughter Barbara was born Sep 4, 1873, she was only two months old when her mother Margaruite died.
On Nov 1, 1874, Fritz married Maria Heidbrink Jan 8, 1856 died April 22, 1918, they had eleven children. Maria is buried in Old Bethel Cemetery,Illinios
