PONTOTOC - Carl Burns Parrish, 80, died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at his home in Pontotoc after an extended illness. He was born Nov. 3, 1930, in Pontotoc County to Marion Lee Parrish and Dovie Geneva Smith Parrish. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed at Ft. Story, Va. He married Nell Gillentine in 1959, and they have shared 51 years of marriage since that time. His education includes an education degree from the University of Mississippi, a business degree from Mississippi State University and a doctorate degree in Psychology from University of Mississippi. He worked in education for several years before going back to school.

Since completing his studies, he has worked in healthcare administration to include VA hospital administrator in Oxford; nursing home administrator in Kosciusko; interim administrator for Scott County Nursing Home and Sunshine Nursing Home in Pontotoc; Ripley Rest Haven Nursing Home and Pontotoc hospital office manager and then administrator for 30 years before retiring. He was a loving father and grandfather, and he was a member of Oakhill Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ted Burcham and Bro. Scott Cockrell officiating. Burial will follow in Pontotoc Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements

Survivors include his wife, Nell Parrish; two daughters, Vicki Roberts (Eugene) of Pontotoc and Tabatha Mathews (David) of Pontotoc; one sister, Hazel Dickerson of Arlington, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Cody Mathews, Anna Beth Roberts and Ross Mathews; one great-grandchild, Mallory Mathews; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jimmy Parrish Sr. and Wilburn Parrish.

Pallbearers will be Cody Mathews, Dr. Danny Moore, Greg Dickerson, Jeff Dickerson, James Earl Waddle, Jimmy Parrish, Mark Parrish and Kevin Parrish.

Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Moore, Bryson Waddle Jr., Ken Gillentine, Tim Gillentine and Jerry Franklin.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from noon until 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
