Catherine Hughes of Lexington, Missouri passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Lafayette Regional Hospital.

Catherine was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on May 12, 1933, one of six children to Nassif and Adele Nicola. She moved with her family to Lexington as a teenager and was later married to Jim Hughes until his passing. She was a homemaker, caretaker, and mother to many beloved dogs and cats over the years. Always maintaining an unmatched dry sense of humor, Catherine was known to keep her family and friends in stitches.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Norma Grosso, Joseph Nicola and Theresa Bell. She is survived by her brother Robert Nicola and his wife Cristina, and younger sister Jean Eddings and her husband Joe. She was a devoted stepmother to Lynne Foss and her husband Skip, and a cherished aunt to many, including her niece Jamie Grosso, who was like the daughter she never had.

A private graveside service will be performed by her nephew, Pastor Joe Nicola. Arrangements have been entrusted to Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home, 1720 South Street, Lexington, MO 64067, 660-259-2245.

The family requests that donations be made to organizations that support and rescue animals.
