A Quiet man, Sweet & Unassuming -

George Arthur Engle, 89, of Shiremanstown, died at Hershey Medical Center on Friday, March 15, 2013. George was born in Mechanicsburg, on January 15, 1924, son of the late Harry O. Engle and Martha (Neff) Engle. He was the widower of Eleanor (Charlson) Engle whom he married on March 17, 1946 and who died on September 27, 2012.

George is survived by his loving daughter Lynn Dee Garrett, and her husband Buckley of Hummelstown; his beloved grandson, Zachary Garrett; his sister, Lois Engle Sechrist of Mechanicsburg, and several nieces and nephews. Among those preceding George in death are his sister, Dorothy Hertzler; and his brother Howard Engle.

George graduated from Mechanicsburg High School, class of 1942. He owned and operated George Engle Construction, and later retired from Ritter Brothers Construction, Harrisburg, PA. In retirement George founded his backyard business, Keepsake Toys. His hand-crafted wood toys were sold in shops and markets in the area – and given to friends and family members to mark special occasions.

True to his central Pennsylvania roots, George was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, his shop walls adorned with trophies earned near the family's Mountain Stone camp and on North Carolina's Outer Banks beaches, which he frequented with his son-in-law and new-found friends.

George was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg. He was a WWII Veteran and served as a US Navy Ordinance officer. He was a member of American Legion Post #109, Mechanicsburg, PA.

All are welcome to join George's family at his visitation on Friday, March 22, 2013, from 9:30 until time of service at 10:30 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 203 South Filbert Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Reverend Dr. S. David Simon officiating. Burial services in St. John's Cemetery, Mechanicsburg will be private and at the family's request.
