Enlisted Jan 9 1940. Was aboard the USS West Virgina which was bombed at Pearl Harbor. Apparently he and two other ship mates lived for 16 days in the fresh water pumping station known as A-111. When the ship was brought up in 1942, three remains were found along with a flashlight and a calendar with 16 days X'd out.
