AKKARD, JOHN
(1834~1902)
John Akkard served as a private in the Confederate Army for less than five months. He enlisted August 20, 1861 in Tallahassee, Florida, and was discharged due to illness January 17, 1862. He was part of Company M,(some records say Company G) of the 2nd Florida Infantry. It is unlikely that he participated in any battles while he was in service. Some of Akkard's records say he was born in Ohio, others say Madison County, Alabama. His last name is also spelled Akard in some records. According to his discharge record he was 5-11, had a fair complexion, blue eyes, and light brown hair.
