Callie Louise Harris Jones, 90, of Morgan's Corner Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Thursday, March 14, 2013 in the Albemarle Hospital. She was born in the Newland Township of Pasquotank County, NC on February 19, 1923 to the late Christopher Hilliard Harris and the late Cora Sophia Morgan Harris and was the widow of the late Joseph Linwood Jones. Mrs. Jones was a faithful and devoted member of Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church having served in various capacities.
She is survived by two daughters, Dianne J. Gaskill of Manteo, NC, and Darlene J. Twiford and husband, David, of Elizabeth City, NC; two sons, Gary L. Jones and wife, Nancy, of Gibbs Woods, NC and R. Chris Jones and wife, Carol, of Southern Shores, NC. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; Jeff Gaskill, Len Gaskill, Jamie Hanna, Hillary Jones, Jennie Brunner, David Twiford, Jr., J.J. Twiford, Whitney Waddington, Courtney Borquet, Callie Wright, and Morgan Capps and 16 great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; Eulalie P. Harris and Audrey T. Harris both of Elizabeth City, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and a very special person, Joyce Brown, who was not only her faithful caretaker but a true friend and companion. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by a sister, Isabelle Forbes, six brothers, Hilliard Harris, Cecil Harris, Garland Harris, Calvin Harris, Everette Harris, and Twiddy Harris; a son-in-law, Jack S. Gaskill, Jr., and two grandsons, Jack S. "Woody" Gaskill, III and John G. "Jay" Gaw, III. The family wishes to thank the nurses, doctors, and staff of Albemarle Hospital Emergency Room, 2nd floor of Albemarle Hospital, 5th floor Palliative Care Unit of Albemarle Hospital, the Pasquotank-Camden EMS, and the staff of Winslow Memorial Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 18, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. in Twiford Memorial Chapel, Church Street, by Rev. Ronnie Wyatt. A private family burial will be in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Sunday evening from 6:00 until 7:30pm at the funeral home and again immediately following the chapel service. Flowers are welcome; however, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church Family Life Center, 1308 School House Road, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
