Man Hid From Tories In Secret Passage

DARIEN--One of the most interesting of Darien's historic homes is the Nathan Weed House at 59 Nearwater Lane, home of Mr. and Mrs. Lindley M. Franklin Jr. Mrs. Murray Franklin, Mrs. Franklin's mother was born Magdelaine Weed, Memorial ID 214113846 Spouse Lindley Murray Franklin 1874–1960 (m. 1909)
First built in 1750, the home has a secret stairway and room where young Nathan Weed, Jr. Memorial ID 14997788 hid from Tory raiding parties . Very close to Long Island Sound, the Weed family had reason to fear foraging British soldiers and Tories.
Father Nathan Weed Memorial ID 10675726 moved his family back into the country for this reason but still had to commute in order to farm his property. At age 15, Nathan, Jr. worked it almost alone.
