F. Gordon Halstead, Banker, Dies at 56; Funeral Tomorrow

F. Gordon Halstead, assistant cashier at the head office of Bishop National Bank, died today at Queen's Hospital following an illness of two months.

He was 56. He lived at 2330 Sonoma Street.

Funeral services over the ashes will be conducted at 3 p.m. tomorrow at St. Clement's Episcopal Church by the Reverend Paul Moore Wheeler, rector of St. Clement's.

Private interment services will follow at Oahu Cemetery.

The family requests that flowers be omitted. Friends wishing to may make donations in Mr. Halstead's memory either to the Hawaii Cancer Society or to the Children's Chapel Fund of St. Clement's Church, Post Office Box 5403.

Mr. Halstead is survived by his wife, the former Phyllis Reynolds; daughter, Sara Stanfield Halstead; son, Frank Gordon, Jr.; two sisters, Mrs. Bernice Bibee of Honolulu and Mrs. Drayton Harrison of Atherton, California, and a brother, Cecil E. Halstead of Poulsbo, Washington.

Also, numerous nephews, nieces and an aunt, Mrs. Christian Castendyck of Honolulu.

Mr. Halstead was born in Honolulu to Mary Elizabeth and Frank Halstead who, with his brother, was half owner at one time of Waialua Plantation.

Following his education at Punahou School and Harvard Military Academy in Los Angeles, F. Gordon Halstead returned to Honolulu to join Bishop National Bank. He would have completed 37 years of service with the bank this year.

During this time he had served as manager of the Lanai, King-Smith Streets and Waikiki branches of the bank. (Honolulu Star-Bulletin Fri. 26 Jun 1959 p. 4)
