WEBB, Mississippi --- THOMAS BENTON ABBEY, JR., 82, president of the Bank of Webb, died of heart failure on Friday, August 30, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital. Services were at 10 a.m. on Sunday, September 1, at the family's home at 415 West Main Street with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery in Sumner. Wilson and Knight Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Mr. Abbey, a lifelong resident of Webb, was a graduate of Sewanee Military Academy. He attended the University of Mississippi and St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Sumner. He also owned an operated T. B. Abbey Jr. Planting Company and Abbey Gin Company of Webb.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; daughters, Scott Abbey West of San Antonio; sons, Jack C. Webb of Webb, and Will McMullen of Sumner; sister, Marjorie Abbey Morrison of Hammond, Louisiana; and, three granddaughters. ~~~ THE CHARLESTON SUN, Charleston, MS, Sept. 5, 1991, page 5
