He had owned a trucking business since the age of 16 and was co-owner of Farmer Sand and Gravel since 1992.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Jene (Gibbs) Farmer; two daughters, Rachel A. Farmer, Angela D. (Robert III) Sloan, and one son, Kim Royal (Lisa Acres); his grandchildren: Joshua J. Taylor, Brent E. Taylor, Samantha R. Taylor, Kelly C. (Jimmy) Wilson, Alik D. Farmer, Blake C. Sloan, Alexis J. Sloan, Robert C. Sloan IV, Elizabeth Royal, and great-grandson Connor Wilson; his siblings: William Henry (Lucile) Farmer, Shirley (Phil) Weaver, Virginia A. (Joseph) Calhoun, Johnny R. (Laurie) Farmer, Leroy (Janice) Farmer, and John Douglas (Kathy) Farmer; sister-in-law, Donna (Tom) Madigan; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Jo Farmer.
