Private Albert Euteneuer was one of the surviving members of the "Lost Battalion" of World War I.
On October 2, 1918, nearly 700 men under the command of Major Charles Whittlesey advanced into the Argonne Forest of northeastern France. This force was almost a kilometer ahead of their main line. They were surrounded and cut off by the Germans. When the Major led the force out five days later, there were only 194 survivors.
