DUMAS - J.W. Blue, 81, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. J. McGaughy, pastor, and Beau Blue officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Mr. Blue went to meet the Lord on Wednesday after a lengthy illness. He was born in Wheeler on Oct. 7, 1923, to Artie Mae Reynolds and Walter E. Blue. His family moved to Bula when he was 6 years old. He graduated from Bula High School in 1941, where he was an outstanding basketball player with a great hook shot from the corner.

J.W. served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. CPL US ARMY AIR FORCES WORLD WAR II.
His service was in the South Pacific and in the invasion and occupation of Japan. Blue married Glennella Gaillard of Texhoma, Okla., on Jan. 3, 1949. In 1954, he started the family company, Blue Plumbing. J.W. "Pops," a 52-year resident of Dumas, sponsored and played on softball teams in Dumas and Guymon, Okla., and was instrumental in building the original Dumas softball park. He was a Methodist, a staunch Democrat and a 32nd degree Mason.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steve Blue and wife, Patsy, and Monte Blue and Juanita, all of Dumas; a daughter, Cathy Creel and husband, Bub, of Newcastle; a daughter-in-law, Yvonne Blue of Dumas; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Temple Baptist Church, 311 N. Maddox St., Dumas, TX 79029; or a favorite charity.

The family will be at 714 Klein St.
