Harriet Nuella Edwards, 104, of Wanamingo, formerly of Ceylon, Minn., died the morning of Oct. 1, 2011.
She was born July 22, 1907, to Julia (Skye) and Sam Gangestad in Armstrong, Iowa. She had 11 siblings. She was baptized and confirmed in the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong, Iowa. She went to school at Halfa, Iowa. On Dec. 16, 1933, she married William Wilmot Edwards. They farmed near Halfa, Iowa, until 1946, when they moved to a farm near Ceylon. Wilmot died in February 1971. Harriet continued to live on the farm until moving to Ceylon in 1980. In 2003, she moved to her daughter, Virginia Sabin’s home in Wanamingo.
She was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge of Armstrong, Iowa, for 55 years, Past Noble Grand’s Club, Ruth Circle, United Methodist Church in Ceylon, Bright Lake Neighbor Birthday Club, and was a key lady of the Ladies Auxiliary of Lakeview Methodist Rest Home in Fairmont. She loved fishing and playing bingo.
She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Sabin; daughter-in-law, Gloria Cargill; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmont, one son, Ervin “Pete” Cargill, one daughter, Dorothy Gudahl, one granddaughter, three grandsons, five brothers, six sisters and their spouses.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Oct. 3, 2011 at Dale Lutheran Church, with Reverend Heather Culuris officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Armstrong Grove Cemetery in Armstrong, Iowa. (Post Bulletin, Rochester, MN, October 3, 2011)
