Born and raised in Defiance, he graduated in 1931 from Defiance High School. While attending Defiance College, he won the Defiance Tennis Championship. He graduated from Cleveland Business College and was employed in Cleveland until 1948 when he moved to Hollywood, Florida. There he worked in Miami as the office manager for the Florida-Georgia Tractor Co. which exported heavy equipment to South America. He retired in 1979 and moved to Boca Raton, Florida. He had lived in Defiance for the last three weeks of his life.
