Winifred A. "Wini" Buss Nov.3, 1937 - Oct. 2, 2012

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at Kaiser Richmond with her son Kurt at her side. Wini loved life and filled every day with activity. Wini was born November 3, 1937 in Sacramento CA to George & Hazel Akers, younger sister to George Akers Jr. Wini grew up in Oakland, CA spending many weekends working on the family ranch outside of Rio Vista. In high school, she was nicknamed "Wini the Pooh"; it wasn't until she took her kids to see the Disney movie "Wini the Pooh" that she realized the full nature of her nickname. Ever since then, she has been an avid admirer of Wini the Pooh!

Wini married Waldeen "Bud" Buss in 1961 and together they raised four children, starting in Pinole CA then moving to Richmond CA. As the kids got older, Wini was a leader in both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts for all four kids. Wini always enjoyed working and enriching children through activities, crafts and leadership. The Buss family spent many weekends going camping and motorcycle trail riding in Northern CA. The most favorite location being Bucks Lake outside of Quincy CA, where they would spend at least two weeks every year enjoying the summer. The long motorcycle rides, water skiing and gatherings with other members of the family made it Wini's most beloved place to be.

In 1989, Wini joined Live Oak Branch of Children's Hospital Oakland. She has been a very loyal and hard working member, working several days a month at the Thrift Shop. Along with becoming the treasurer for the branch and thrift shop Wini was instrumental in their many events the branch put on during the year that included; Archery Shoot, Miniature Show & Sale, Belly Dance Show and Dinner Theater.

Wini is survived by her four children; daughter Kammy Chinnock of Denver CO; sons Kevin Buss of Greenville CA; Karl Buss of Clinton KY; and Kurt Buss of El Cerrito CA; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of "Wini" to: Children's Hospital Branches - Live Oak Branch 5700 Martin Luther King Jr. Way T-2, Oakland CA 94609-1673.
