Miss Mabel Weed died Nov. 17, 1957 at her home in Palo Alto, CA after a period of failing health. She was 86.

Born in 1871, in Seattle, Washington, she was the daughter of Dr. Gideon Allen and Mrs. Adeline M. Willis Weed, a resident of California for nearly 60 years. Social worker. Assistant Librarian, Berkeley Public Library for six years. Secretary of Charity Organization Society and City Commission of Public Charities, Berkeley, for seven years. Former secretary, California Conference of Social Work. Four years, in charge of children's work of the State Board of Charities and Corrections; for four years, executive secretary of the S. F. Council of Social and Health agencies and secretary of the Research committee of the S. F. Community Chest. Assistant Director of the California State Department of Social Welfare. She has made intensive studies in the field of social service.

Miss Weed had been the assistant director of the Peninsula School, Menlo Park, serving there with Mrs. Frank Duveneck. During World War II years she owned and operated a book and gift shop, "The Little Shop Around the Corner" in Palo Alto's downtown district, giving that up when she became ill. She was a member of: American Ass'n of Social Workers, Women's City Club, S.F., Woodside Country Club and the First Congregational Church of Palo Alto.
