John was born in New Haven, March 25, 1935, the son of the late Arthur Fortin and Carmella Botta Fortin and had been a Wallingford resident for many years. He was a U.S. Marine Corps. Korean War Veteran and was employed by Marlin Firearms and at Walmart as a greeter for 14 years until his retirement. He was an active parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church, a fourth degree Knight member of the Knights of Columbus Pinta Council No.5. John was a member of the committee to create the Korean War Monument in Wallingford, involved in fundraising efforts for the West Haven VA Hospital and families of deployed Marines at holidays. John was a man known by many, admired by all. Semper Fi.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by his two daughters Laura Fortin and Dawn (Fortin) Burke; his three grandchildren; three sisters Barbara Richardson, Letec D'Agostino and Florence Stone; and many nieces and nephews.
His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home Tuesday, August 24. Funeral services will be held Wednesday from The Wallingford Funeral Home when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment with military honors will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford.
