Calderhead Continues Search for Youthful Murderers of Pioneer Citizen
Resistance Is Believed To Have Led To Death
Unconscious Man Counts to Fifty After Shooting; Fatal Bullet Enters Body Below Heart
Two boys are being held for identification by Bartlesville authorities in connection with the murder of I.D. (Dorsey) Andrew in Mehan Saturday night, it became known here Wednesday morning. A party of officers and persons who claim to have seen the youths who shot Andrew left immediately for Bartlesville on receipt of a telephone call from the sheriff there.
Camping at the side of the road near Bartlesville, the boys are said to have fired at an arresting deputy Tuesday night.
Z.E. Axtel and his wife, of Mehan, who declare they can identify the murderers of Andrew, are in the party that went to Bartlesville. Axtell operates a mercantile establishment across the street from teh Andrew store, and the boys are said to have gone there first and asked for a drink of water.
Althougth Sheriff John Calderhead has deputies working on the case of I.D. (Dorsey Andrew, 56-year-old pioneer Oklahoman and former peace officer here, who was shot and killed by two hold-up men in his store at Mehan Saturday night, no trace of the murders has been found.
Funeral services for Andrew were conducted at the First Methodist church Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Glen A. Baldwin, assisted by Rev. Virtes Williams. Burial was in Fair Lawn cemetery. The funeral cortege was a half-mile in length.
Andrew never regained consciousness following the shooting, which occurred at 8:40 o'clock Saturday night. The fatal bullet entered his left side just under the heart and came out just below the right arm pit. Another bullet entered his chest and came out through his back....
