Cynthia L. Davis Burns, 58, died Tuesday, March 12, 2013, in Clayton.

Cynthia was born May 15, 1954, in Clayton to Clifton C. Davis and Erva Jean Hanson Davis. She graduated from Clayton High School and attended Lamar Junior College and West Texas A&M University, where she received her bachelors degree in agriculture business. She worked for Diamond Shamrock Oil Co. in Amarillo, Texas, for a few years. Cynthia married Bobby Burns on Aug. 5, 1978, in Clayton, and they lived on and operated ranches throughout the area. She enjoyed ranching and loved all of her animals. Cynthia returned to school and received her bachelors degree in education from New Mexico Highlands University and later received her masters degree in education from Lindsey University. She taught school in Amistad for three years and then at Alvis Elementary School in Clayton for 15 years before she had to retire due to health reasons. She loved all of her students and each one of them had a special place in her heart. She always had a warm smile on her face and was kind to all. Cynthia was a wonderful and loving mother and wife.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Susie Herman; and a niece, Wendy Bullock.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby Burns of Clayton; a daughter, Ali Pilgrim and husband Chris of Amarillo; a son, Wes Burns of Weatherford, Texas; three grandsons, Drake Pilgrim, Cole Pilgrim and Brock Pilgrim; five sisters, Karen Howard and husband Leroy of Springer, Jan Kuhlman and husband Jim of Aztec, Nancy Davis and husband Tom Hesch of Albuquerque, Marcy Edmondson and husband Roger of Raton and Melissa Allen and husband David of Springer; a brother-in-law, Ron Herman of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephews.
