SOUTH BEND - Paul R. Dawson Sr., 78, of South Bend, passed away on Tuesday evening, March 12th, in the Hospice House of South Bend. Paul was born in Mishawaka on Nov. 24, 1934, to the late Virgil and Jenetta (Haines) Dawson.
On Oct. 29, 1996, in Knox, IN, he married Germaine (Beavo) Rodgers, who survives. Paul retired from AM General, where he worked for over 30 years. He was an avid bowler, loved Concord High School football along with Notre Dame football, enjoyed taking trips to the local casinos, and he was a member of the UAW Local #5, but most importantly, Paul was a very caring and loving man.
Paul is survived by his wife, Germaine; his children, Tim (Julie) Dawson of Elkhart and Vickie (Ray) Leventhal of Lehigh Acres, Florida. He is also survived by a step-daughter, Georganne (Jeff) Vervaet of Walkerton, along with a brother, Ronald Dawson of Edwardsburg, Michigan. Paul was a grandfather of 7, a great-grandfather of 5, 11 step-grandchildren and 19 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Dawson Jr., two stepdaughters, Pricilla Krege and Rebecca Heyse, stepson, Wilson M. Rodgers Jr., two brothers, Kenneth and Richard Dawson, and two sisters, Doris Green and Shirley Whetstone.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, March 15th, from 4 until 8:00 pm in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday morning. A service celebrating Paul's life will be held at 11 am in the funeral chapel, with Rev. Ervin Mize officiating. Burial is to follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Paul's name to the Hospice Foundation, 4220 Edison Lakes Parkway, Suite 210, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
